A 23-year-old man has been airlifted to Perth with serious injuries after his car ploughed into a tree near Gingin overnight.

The incident occurred on Gingin Brook Road in Coonabidgee about 2.30am.

The man was trapped in the wreckage of his Toyota sedan for some time before emergency services could free him.

His injuries are believed to be serious but not life-threatening.

He was flown to Royal Perth Hospital on board the RAC Rescue helicopter early this morning.

Police will investigate whether speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.
