Chemical spill shuts freeway

A chemical spill on Tonkin Highway near Great Eastern Highway is causing significant congestion in the area and affecting access to Perth Airport this afternoon.

It is believed a truck has crashed and spilt toxins onto Tonkin Highway between Great Eastern Highway and Leach Highway.

The incident occurred about 1.15pm.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area.

Tonkin Highway northbound before Great Eastern Highway is now closed. Dunreath Drive may be closed too.

Emergency services are on route.
