Police have charged three teenagers over the fire which nearly destroyed the historic Mt Lawley Primary School, causing about $9 million damage.

It is understood police have charged a 16-year-old girl with trespass and two boys, aged 15 and 16 years old, with lighting the fires which destroyed most of the heritage building a month ago.

The trio were charged yesterday.

The boys were charged with criminal damage by fire and, along with the girl, will appear in the Perth Children’s Court on August 31.

Students from the school have been moved to Mount Lawley High School while their school is rebuilt – a process expected to take about 18 months.

Their interim classrooms were built on a soccer pitch at the high school in just 13 days.

The destruction of the school triggered an outpouring of emotion from staff, students and their parents
