Police seek car occupants in bashing case

Police have released descriptions of two cars in their investigation into the savage bashing of a Warnbro teenager by an armed gang on the weekend.

Police Commissioner Karl O’Callaghan said the apparently unprovoked attack was “one of the most significant and serious crimes” in WA in recent memory.

He told ABC radio this morning police wanted to speak to the occupants of a small blue vehicle who helped Jimi Brewer-Joyce, 17, after he was bashed by a group of 10 men outside Gull service station on Safety Bay Road in Warnbro about 10.50pm on Saturday.

They also wanted to locate the occupants of a dark blue Holden Commodore which drove through the same area shortly before the attack and who may have seen the gang.

The gang arrived in three cars and got out armed with bats, golf clubs, hockey sticks and pool cues, and with balaclavas and bandanas concealing their faces.

They charged towards Jimi and his friends, two of whom managed to flee and escape the violence.

The gang attacked Jimi, striking him repeatedly to the body and head, knocking him to the ground. The attackers then got back into their vehicles and sped away.

The teenager suffered a fractured skull, facial injuries and bruising to the brain and is in a stable condition in Royal Perth Hospital.
