Heavy fogs diverts flights

STAFF REPORTER, The West Australian July 23, 2012, 9:11 am

Heavy fog blanketing the city has caused significant flight delays at Perth airport this morning, with planes also stuck the skies unable to land.

At least 20 flights had been delayed leaving Perth – including a Singapore Airlines flight that was forced to refuel after spending more than an hour on the tarmac.

The weather required Skywest flight XR 102 to turn around and return to Geraldton, while Tiger flight TT182 from Melbourne was diverted to Kalgoorlie.

Clear skies overnight caused temperatures to plunge early in the morning – causing fog to form over north-east areas of city, weather bureau forecaster Peter Clegg said.

It is expected to linger for another hour or so before lifting, he said.
