Customs intercepts asylum seeker boat

Authorities have intercepted a boat carrying a suspected 55 asylum seekers off WA’s coastline.

Customs and Border Protection officers with help from the Australian Federal Police intercepted the boat at Cocos (Keeling) Islands this afternoon.

The passengers will be transferred to Christmas Island where immigration department officials will conduct initial security, health and identity checks.
