Christian Porter's passage into Federal politics is almost assured after he won the preselection ballot for the seat of Pearce by 39 votes to 15 today.
Once the Liberal Party ratifies the vote, Mr Porter will replace the retiring Judi Moylan as the candidate at the next Federal election.
The 41-year-old stunned the State Liberals in June by quitting as treasurer and attorney-general - a decision that prompted a reshuffle of the Barnett Government's Cabinet.
The changes included the dumping of Rob Johnson and Liz Constable from their police and education portfolios.
Mr Porter's nearest rival for the Pearce preselection was 24-year-old lawyer Alex Butterworth.Sponsored links
