Eight-storey hotel for Karratha

An eight-storey luxury hotel development is to be built in Karratha after a management agreement was signed today.

Hilton Worldwide has signed an agreement with Ramtron Australia Pty Ltd to open the 164-room DoubleTree by Hilton in the mining hub.

About 100 local jobs are expected to be created by the new hotel once it is opened in mid-2014.

The hotel will be the first DoubleTree by Hilton in Australia and will feature 144 guest rooms, 20 apartments, an all-day dining restaurant, bar, fitness centre, outdoor pool, three function rooms and car parking.

Hilton Worldwide Australasia development vice president Robert Schullin said the development would be "strategically" placed to support the growing demand from the resources sector in the region.

The hotel is to be built in the centre of the Karratha commercial area, 15km from the airport and 20km from the port at Dampier.

Rothchester Hotel and Resorts Pty Ltd managing director Ron Tondut said the development was a "significant" one for the region.

"The introduction of a brand such as this represents a significant hotel development in one of Australia’s most important resources regions and is a testament to the tremendous growth which is taking place in this area," he said.
