Melbourne are reeling today at the news Mitch Clark will miss the rest of the AFL season with a foot injury.
One of the shining lights in a dismal season for the Demons, Clark suffered a 'Lisfranc' ligament tear in his right foot during the second quarter of the club's clash against GWS at the weekend.
A Lisfranc tear involves the ligaments in the middle of the foot and can often require surgery to heal.
The news is crushing for the side, who were riding a high off the back of only their second win this season.
Football manager Josh Mahoney said the entire club was rattle by the scan results.
“This is incredibly unfortunate for Mitch and for everyone involved with the Club," Mahoney told the club website.
“His leadership and influence on the group - on and off the field - has been outstanding since arriving at the Club.
“The club will now investigate the best course of action to repair and rehabilitate Mitch’s injury. We want to ensure he has a smooth return to football in 2013.
“As with all injuries, this now presents an opportunity for someone else to step-up.
“But as has been shown in recent weeks, we are building flexibility into our players and now have several options.”Clark had kicked 29 goals in just 11 appearances for the club as one of the side's best performers after moving from Brisbane in the off-season trade week.
