Police have seized more than 5kg of what they believe are prohibited mushrooms from a car in Donnybrook.

Donnybrook police found the fungi, believed to be illegal "magic mushrooms", during a search of a car containing four Perth men on Saturday.

Police say charges are likely to follow tests on the mushrooms.

Donnybrook Police said they will be patrolling the area and searching vehicles after the find.
