Man charged after body found in scrub

Update, 2.20am: A 20-year-old Newman man has been charged following the death of a 14-year-old girl whose body was discovered in the town yesterday.

The child’s body was found on the side of the road on McLennan Drive in the Newman townsite at about 7.30am.

She had reportedly suffered a head injury.

The man has been charged with grievous bodily harm.

Major Crime squad detectives travelled to the east Pilbara town from Newman to investigate, and this morning locked down the area where the body was found.

Police from Karratha and South Hedland are also involved in the investigation.
