York fires raise suspicion

GABRIELLE KNOWLES, The West Australian February 26, 2012, 9:24 am

York police and arson squad officers are investigating four scrub fires from last night, which are suspected to be deliberately lit.

Firefighters were called to extinguish four separate fires between 5.20pm and 7.40pm.

The first fire was on the north-west corner of Morris Edwards Drive and Great Southern Highway and the second was in bushland at the road entrance to the York Golf Course on Great Southern Highway. The third and fourth fires were in open bushland.

The prompt response of firefighters meant the fires burnt only a small area.

Anyone with information about the suspicious blazes should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
