Eyre Highway smoke warning

PHOEBE WEARNE, The West Australian February 17, 2012, 12:08 pm

Motorists on Eyre Highway are being advised to take care as smoke billowing from a nearby fire is affecting visibility in the area.

The Fire and Emergency Services Authority has issued a bushfire advice for people driving near Heartbreak Ridge in the Shire of Dundas.

The blaze, which is one of several fires in the area started by lightening yesterday, is burning about 65km east of Norseman and is slowly moving towards the Eyre Highway.

It is out of control and unpredictable.

There is no threat to lives or homes at this stage but smoke is impacting the highway.

Shire of Dundas personnel are on their way to the scene.

Road signs are in place on Eyre Highway to alert motorists of potential dangers. Parts of the highway will be closed if impacted by fire.
