Perth on bushfire alert

The West Australian February 7, 2012, 4:16 pm

Update, 5.35pm Perth firefighters are on alert after a severe fire danger rating was issued for tomorrow.

The Fire and Emergency Services Authority warns areas at risk of fire include those in the Perth metropolitan area, Perth Hills, parts of Perth between the coast and the hills and neighbouring shires of Chittering, Gingin, Murray, Serpentine-Jarrahdale, Waroona and Toodyay.

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast hot, dry and windy conditions for tomorrow.

FESA says if a fire takes hold it will be "unpredictable, move very fast" and be difficult for firefighters to control.

Those in or near bushland have been told to take action immediately and read bushfire survival plans.

Those not prepared to the highest level have been advised to leave their homes early in the day.

A total fire ban has been declared for the Perth area, surrounding shires and Mandurah.
