Thieves hit Broome jeweller again

AMY WILLIAMS, The West Australian February 6, 2012, 10:55 am

Thieves have struck a Broome jewellery for the second time in a month.

Prouds Jewellers in the Broome Boulevard Shopping Centre was broken into last night. Police were alerted this morning and are investigating.

Forensics officers have been examining the shop and one of the doors at the centre's northern entrance. The door's glass panels were smashed in during the raid.

Broome Police Sen. Const. Darren O'Connor said a number of items were stolen during the night and the store would be undertaking a full stocktake today.

Sen. Const. O'Connor said the exact time of the burglary was unknown.

The burglary follows a violent break-in at Prouds on January 10, where display windows were smashed and more than 100 chains and watches were stolen.

On that occasion, offenders had also broken into an electrical store in Short Street, and attempted to break in to a service station on Reid Road.

Anyone with information for police can call Broome Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
