Fourteen high-performance sports cars, including eight Ferraris and a Lamborghini, were reduced to mangled wrecks when a convoy crashed in Japan yesterday.

Japanese traffic police told media it took more than six hours to clear the wreckage from the Chugoku Expressway in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Honshu.

“The accident occurred when the driver of a red Ferrari was switching from the right lane to the left and skidded,” a police officer said. “It was a gathering of narcissists.”

Bloomberg said the accident included a Ferrari F-360 that costs more than 18 million yen (A$226,195).

Ten drivers sustained minor injuries.

A 60-year-old man may face three months in jail or a $1283 fine if he is found to have caused the accident.
