'Healthy' couple die after sudden illness while on holiday in Fiji

A couple have died in mysterious circumstances after falling seriously ill on their dream holiday together in Fiji.

David and Michelle Paul, from Fort Worth in Texas, became sick after arriving on the tropical island some time between May 22 and 25.

Family of the couple, who shared a two-year-old son, were particularly shocked at their sudden death because both were fit and healthy.

Ms Paul’s sister-in-law Tracey Calanog told news outlet WFAA Mr Paul had been in the air force and his wife was a former student athlete.

"They were planning an amazing vacation," Ms Calanog said.

"They knew something was going on in their body and were able to get to the hospital.”

The cause of the couple’s death has yet to be revealed and remains under investigation.

The family have speculated they may have been affected by a deadly virus.

The pair also owned a dog, Zooey, who they boarded in a kennel before they left.

Ms Calanog eventually tracked her down after calling on help from local community members via social media.
