Lindsay 'The Doctor' McDougall quits triple j

ABC youth music radio station triple j is bidding farewell to Drive announcer Lindsay "The Doctor" McDougall.

This afternoon McDougall announced live on air he would be leaving after 10 years at the radio station.

He delivered the news to his listeners through the medium of song in a self-written tune titled I'm F***ing Off.

The lyrics explain: "I'm f***ing off because I want to do a bunch of cool other stuff ... also I think 10 years is quite enough.

"No I haven't been axed, there's no knives in my back from the ABC efficiency review.

"There's nothing wrong with my health, I just think that someone else should have a turn at talking shit and playing real cool tunes.

"I'm not selling out to Nova, Triple M or Fox."

McDougall joined the triple j team in January 2005, hosting the breakfast show with his friend and Frenzal Rhomb band-mate Jay Whalley.

He went on to also co-host triple j Breakfast with presenters including Myf Warhurst, Marieke Hardy and Robbie Buck, before moving to the afternoon time slot.

For the past five years McDougall presented his own drive show at the station.

In a statement on its website, triple j said: "There's still plenty of time to be overwhelmed with the warm and fuzzies before the Doctor's final goodbye."

McDougall will sign-off for good on December 11.

There is no word yet on who will replace McDougall, with triple j stating it will be announced in early December.
