Meghan Trainor: 'All About That Bass saved me'

Meghan Trainor never believed she was pop star material until her Grammy-award winning hit all About That Bass made her a poster-girl for body confidence.

Despite writing hits for stars including Fifth Harmony, Jennifer Lopez, Rascal Flatts and Jason Derulo.

She says she was acutely aware she "didn’t look like Britney Spears".

"All About That Bass saved my life, made all my dreams come true."

In particular, an incident with a high school crush set her on the path of low self-esteem so many girls walk.

"He said 'you’d be really, really hot if you were like 10 pounds lighter'," she said.

"I went home and like didn’t want to eat, I felt awful I was like — I love this dude and he just told me to my face that I am not acceptable because I am ten pounds heavier than what I should be."

"It crushed me."

Sunday Night's PJ Madam met Trainor in London just weeks before her recent photoshop scandal that saw her music video pulled from the internet.

The video of her new song 'Me Too' had been altered to make her look slimmer and the star announced via Snapchat that she had demanded the label correct it.

During her interview with Sunday Night she was fiercely anti-airbrushing.

"My friend showed me she has this folder on her phone of six different apps that she uses to 'correct herself' she says, like Photoshop herself to be perfect."

"I just looked at that and said we’re screwed. We’re screwed."
