Hollywood’s most inspirational star opens his heart to Sunday Night’s Rahni Sadler about his battle with Parkinson’s disease. It’s just over 20 years since Michael J. Fox was diagnosed with the disease and in this exclusive, he's still the incurable optimist. Michael J Fox no longer wants to hide his plight, but instead wants to talk about his “charmed life” and his mission to find a cure. Now he’s turned to an Aussie for help. New research driven by Fox and Sydney businessman Clyde Campbell, also diagnosed with PD, is looking like the best hope for better treatment and eventually, a cure. The former teen heart throb takes Sunday Night into the foundation he set up to search for a cure for the disease and reveals the real hope on the horizon.

Shake It Up Australia Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation established in 2011 to promote and focus on Parkinson’s Disease (PD) research here in Australia.

It is a community-funded charity, leaning on its partners and supporters to help reach their goals of delivering better treatments, prevention strategies and ultimately finding a cure in the very near future.

Clyde Campbell was diagnosed with PD in 2009. After coming to terms with his prognosis, Clyde set out to learn as much as possible about Parkinson’s disease and what was being done worldwide to find a cure.

In 2011, Clyde embraced his entrepreneurial spirit and decided to join the action. After many months of research and communication (including a trip to Glasgow for the World Parkinson’s Congress), Clyde launched the Shake It Up Australia Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, to increase awareness in Australia and increase funding towards finding a cure.

Parkinson's Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI)

PPMI is The Michael J. Fox Foundation's landmark five-year clinical study to find biomarkers of Parkinson's disease progression — game changers in the development of disease-modifying treatments for Parkinson's. The international study is already under way at 19 sites in the United States and Europe.

The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (MJFF) collaborates with Parkinson’s sufferer and Shake It Up Foundation Australia’s founder Clyde Campbell. Together, they’re expanding MJFF's landmark clinical study, the Parkinson's Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI), to Australia.
