He's had us in stitches for nearly half a century, and now one of the funniest men in the world sits down with Sunday Night for an interview you'll never forget.

Now 72 years old, John Cleese is touring the world because, as he says, it's the best way to earn money. "I have fallen on hard times… partly, because I am now on the far-side of romantic leading roles, but also because I’ve just been through a costly and acrimonious divorce…".

John Cleese's divorce cost him $20 million, and he tells Ross Coulthart what he really thinks about his ex-wife. In his most revealing interview yet, John Cleese talk about love, life and the true stories behind Monty Python and Fawlty Towers.

Tour details

Legendary UK Comic John Cleese a force behind some of the most groundbreaking comedy of the 20th century, will appear in Australia next year in his brand new show An Evening with John Cleese.

Asked to describe his show, Cleese said: “It’s an evening of well honed anecdotes, psychoanalytical tit-bits, and unprovoked attacks on former colleagues, especially Michael Palin.”

He is loved for his comedic antics in this and other cult films such as Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life, The Life of Brian and Fierce Creatures.

In 1998 Cleese won a British Academy Award for Best Actor in A Fish Called Wanda which also starred Jamie Lee Curtis and Kevin Kline. He also appeared in two John Bond movies, The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day.

His distinctive English accent has been put to good use on several animated children's films, voicing King Harold in Shrek 2, Shrek The Third a Shrek Ever After and Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone; and of course the ever memorable television series Fawlty Towers.

An author of several books, Cleese contributed to The Pythons: Autobiography. He also reunited with the surviving members of Monty Python in 2009 to celebrate the group’s 40th anniversary.

The national tour kicks off in Perth in January 2012 and finishes in Canberra mid April.
