John Riddell began his media career in Adelaide's suburban newspaper group, Messenger Newspapers. It wasn't long before he was offered a position at radio station 5DN.
Later he would travel the world as a correspondent for the Macquarie radio network.
His television debut came at 1980 at Channel Seven in Perth.
He joined Channel Nine in 1981 back in his home state, where he spent nine years in the newsroom before moving to Channel Seven.

Outside of work, John enjoys all water sports, particularly surfing.
