South Australian filmed Wolf Creek 2 set to debut

Wolf Creek 2 is set to strike fear into the hearts of moviegoers at this weekend’s Venice Film Festival, but 7News has been given an exclusive sneak peek behind the scenes.

The sequel to the infamous horror flick was filmed in South Australia earlier this year and it set to make its premiere in Venice.

While it is mainly shot in the Flinders Ranges, the story is actually set in Western Australia.

“There’s the RM Williams Highway which is an incredible stretch of straight road which is where we shot a lot of the action sequence on,” director Greg McLean said.

The crew then travelled back through Port Parham, Lower Light and then Adelaide.

“Often when we are shooting, if you turn the camera three feet that way, there’s Rundle Mall,” Mr McLean said.

Locals and tourists even got a taste of what to expect, with some even experiencing run-ins with the terrifying lead villan.

“When we were shooting on the road it was pretty funny because you’d see people touring or going on holiday, and you’d basically see this rig with John Jarrett in costume and these huge cameras hanging off and 20 lights, and people would just be driving past going ‘what the hell is going on here’,” Mr McLean said.

In some scenes, Adelaide’s skyline had to be photoshopped out, but some local landmarks remain, including the famous anti-dump statues along Port Wakefield Rd at Dublin.

Wolf Creek 2 hits Australian screens in February.
