Health authorities are again urging people to get flu vaccinations as the number of reported cases in South Australia spikes.

Doctors are also reminding people to visit their general practitioner if they have flu symptoms, and not clog up hospitals and emergency rooms.

More than 200 cases of the flu have been recorded for the month of June, already double the figure for May.

A new media campaign has also been rolled out to remind cold and flu sufferers to see their general practitioner, rather than visit a hospital.

Last year, almost 50 per cent of people who presented to emergency rooms were deemed to be in the non or semi-urgent categories.
