'Mugger' chooses wrong victim
A note for would-be muggers out there: When selecting your next victim, don't choose an MMA fighter.
24-year-old Anthony Miranda allegedly found this out the hard way when he approached the car of his unidentified 'victim', and wound up with a gunshot wound and facial injuries.
Chicago police say Mr Miranda approached the man's car to ask for a lighter before producing a gun and demanding that his victim step out of the car.
Mr Miranda allegedly demanded the victim hand over his cash - which he did before making a move to seize the gun.
A tug-of-war ensued in which the gun went off, leaving the bungling burglar with a gunshot wound to the ankle.
The victim, who police say is a mixed-martial arts fighter, then held Miranda to the ground until police made their way to the scene.
By the time police arrived Miranda had two black eyes and a face full of cuts and bruises.
Along with his injuries, Miranda now faces charges of armed robbery and aggravated discharge of a firearm.
Records show Miranda already has conviction for burglary; he's now being held on $350,000 USD bail.
