Some say romance is dead, but a Brisbane man proved them wrong today by staging an elaborate proposal in Brisbane's King George Square.

Organised by radio station B105, Barry Freeme's unsuspecting girlfriend was serenaded by a flash mob, marching band and cheerleaders before he popped the question.

Asked if she had any idea about her boyfriend's intentions prior to accepting his proposal, Mr Freeme's girlfriend responded: "No, but I've been pushing him for a while."

The perfect present just prior to Valentine's Day.
