Husband of missing mum hires lawyer

The husband of a missing Brisbane mum has hired a Gold Coast criminal lawyer.

Brookfield mother Allison Baden-Clay was reported missing by her husband a week ago.

The 43-year-old was last seen walking down Brookfield Rd, in Brisbane's west, on the evening of April 19.

A mannequin dressed in clothes similar to those worn by Mrs Baden-Clay is on display alongside the road on Friday in a bid to jog people's memories.

Her husband Gerard Baden-Clay has hired Darren Mahony from Jacobson Mahony Lawyers, who issued a statement on Thursday night.

"I have been instructed by Mr Baden-Clay to give him advice and assist him in dealings with police, as you would expect in the circumstances," his statement said.

"In order to avoid confusion, I confirm communications with police are being undertaken through my office."

Yesterday police played down the decision to search a house and business over the disappearance of Ms Baden-Clay, saying it was standard procedure.

Detectives entered the Kenmore house where missing woman Allison Baden-Clay's husband, Gerard Baden-Clay, was believed to be staying with his parents.

They left with a computer and a bag of items.

Police later searched a business that is believed to belong to Mr Baden-Clay, a real estate agent.

They say no-one has been charged over the disappearance of the 43-year-old Brookfield mother of three.

"This is a standard procedure as part of the ongoing investigation," Detective-Superintendent Mark Ainsworth said in a statement.

On Wednesday, police released images of the family's two four-wheel drives and appealed for anyone who saw the vehicles last Thursday evening or Friday morning to come forward.

The cars have been impounded.

About 120 police and State Emergency Service volunteers are searching the Brookfield, Bellbowrie, Pullenvale and Kenmore areas.

They're being assisted by members of the Queensland Fire & Rescue Service and Brisbane City Council.
