Tiger bites handler at Dreamworld

The Bengal tiger which bit a handler at Dreamworld theme park on the Gold Coast will be back on public display on Monday.

Tiger handler Daniel Jans sustained wounds to his lower thigh and upper calf when nine-year-old Kato bit him while they were walking to Tiger Island just before 9am (AEST) on Sunday.

An ambulance was called and Mr Jans, 30, was taken to Allamanda Private Hospital for treatment, where he remains in a stable condition.

Dreamworld spokeswoman Melinda Lloyd said it was "only a nip", and the 160kg Kato would be back on public display and working with other handlers on Monday.

She said there was no need to monitor Kato's behaviour.

"There was no aggression shown or anything like that, it's just cheeky behaviour," Ms Lloyd told AAP.

"This kind of thing happens now and then.

"The tiger is still following its normal daily routine and will be back on Tiger Island tomorrow."

Ms Lloyd said Mr Jans was in good spirits and it was unlikely his injuries would require stitches.

There may even be a chance Mr Jans could return to working with Kato by the middle of the week.

"It depends how well it heals," Ms Lloyd said.

"They'll clean it out and monitor to make sure there is no infection, and because of that it's unlikely they will put stitches in.

"He could probably be back at work by Wednesday or Thursday."

She said Kato was currently out of the public's view and resting in his usual area.
