A driver is on the run from Queensland police after the car they were driving crashed into a tree and killed a passenger.

The car slammed into a tree at Murrumba Downs, north of Brisbane at approximately 1:45am.

The 19-year-old passenger from Narangbah, was found dead but there are no signs of the driver.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after their search of the area for the driver proved fruitless.

Police are still hunting the driver of the vehicle.
