A 23-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter after the death of a man in a domestic dispute in Hamilton last month.

Adam Rawiri Palmer, 26, died on August 15 at a house in West Hamilton shortly after police arrived at the address.

Detective Inspector Sue Schwalger said they had upgraded a charge of assault against the man charged with causing Mr Palmer's death after considering the events that took place at the house.

She said police were told there was a struggle between two men and they found Mr Palmer being restrained when they arrived. He died a short time later.
