Name suppression for Kapiti attack accused

The 25-year-old man charged over the death of a Paraparaumu teenager has been granted interim name suppression in his first court appearance.

The Titahi Bay man appeared in Porirua District Court on Monday, where he was remanded in custody until his next appearance on September 4, Radio New Zealand reports.

Izak Millanta, 17, died on Sunday in Wellington Hospital after being found unconscious in a Coastlands shopping mall carpark early on Saturday morning.

He had been drinking and was involved in an altercation outside the Retro Bar on the highway through Paraparaumu.

Police arrested the 25-year-old on Sunday and charged him with assault.

Further charges may be laid.
