The Australian Defence Force (ADF) has joined the search for three men on board a helicopter that disappeared in dense bushland in Papua New Guinea last week.

The search is continuing for New Zealander Antony Annan, 49, and Australians Russell Aitken, 42, and licensed aircraft maintenance engineer Emmett Fynn, 36, who were on board a Bell 206 chopper that went missing near Mt Hagen in the PNG highlands on Thursday.

The ADF will supply two Blackhawks helicopters and additional manpower to aid in the search around Mt Hagen, where the helicopter went missing.

"ADF support was requested by the Rescue Coordination Centre in Australia today after a formal request from PNG emergency authorities this morning," the ADF said in a statement on Tuesday.

The Australian Army Blackhawks will provide a visual search of the area where the Hevilift Bell 206 helicopter went missing on July 6.

An aero-medical evacuation team, additional observers and a downed aircraft recovery team will also assist.
