Hero teen saves pet cat from python

A 14-year-old boy has described the moment he saved his pet cat from being eaten by a huge python.

Connor Keyzer first saw the five-metre reptile hanging from the roof of his home in Cairns.

He said the animal was preparing to pounce on his pet moggy, which was on the ground several metres below.

“It caught my eye through like the moonlight on its scales,” Connor told 7 News.

“The snake was like going to slighter down the roof and eat the cat.”

Thinking quickly, the teenager snatched up the feline before the python had time to attack.

The family first noticed the animal was living in their ceiling last week.

They called a local snake catcher, who said the reptile had been there for some time.

“The big girl became a problem when its pee started to soak through the roof,” the snake handler wrote on Facebook.

"I advised the owners they had two options: remove sheets of the roof to obtain access or wait and check each night for it to come out.

“She came out over the weekend and decided to start eye balling the cat.

The snake handler was able to capture the reptile and relocate it away from the home.
