Alex Cullen

Alex Cullen presents the 6pm sports bulletin for Seven News in Sydney.

The 28-year-old first started at the network as a reporter in Perth in 2006. He remained there for a year before moving to Sydney to work as a sports producer on Sunrise.

Six months later, he became a general reporter for Seven News, where highlights included covering the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 and the Melbourne Cup Carnival as well as interviewing Elton John, Nicole Kidman and Miranda Kerr. Alex was also asked to cover the inspiring story of Jane McGrath.

In addition to reporting, Alex has acted as the fill-in and summer weekend sports presenter since late 2007. He began reading the sports bulletin on weekdays alongside Ian Ross and Chris Bath in January 2009.

Prior to working at Seven, Alex was the sports presenter and back-up news presenter for Golden West News in Bunbury, Western Australia. He had first made the move to WA in 2004, when he landed a job as a reporter in Kalgoorlie for Golden West News. It is still Alex's favourite place in Australia.

His first big break into television though was while visiting Wagga Wagga in 2003, when he secured a role as a reporter at Prime News. He lists one of his highlights there as playing rugby for the Wagga Waratahs. Straight after the game, Alex grabbed the microphone and interviewed the captains before they'd even come off the field.

Before starting in TV, Alex worked in radio, initially as an announcer at B-Rock FM and 2BS in Bathurst. He also started taking casual shifts at 2GB in Sydney reading the weekend overnight news and working as a weekend reporter.

Alex grew up on a wheat and sheep farm near Coonamble in the state's north west. After leaving high school and spending a year overseas, he completed a journalism degree at Charles Sturt University in Bathurst.

But Alex first considered pursuing a path in media when he recorded himself calling imaginary games of rugby league and tennis at age 12. His year six class was impressed with the tape so he decided then that it would be the career for him.
