Convicts marry in rare jail wedding

A convict on death row and a woman jailed for 32 years have tied the knot in a rare jail wedding in Orange County, US.

The bride Marissa Star Bilotti, 20, is serving a 32-year sentence for helping a former boyfriend shoot and kill a man in 2010.

She is charged with first-degree murder, burglary, and robbery

The groom is 26-year old Iftekhar Murtaza who faces the death penalty kidnapping the father and sister of his ex-girlfriend, beating them to death, and then setting their bodies on fire in 2007.

During the attack Murtaza also reportedly slit the throat of his ex-girlfriend's mother, but she survived. Murtaza faces the death penalty if convicted of the murders.

Their romance began in January, when Murtaza approached Bilotti by getting a letter delivered to her by another female inmate.

Soon, the exchange became frequent and the couple reportedly fell in love in the second month despite having never physically met each other.

By April they were engaged and started making efforts to get married.

Bilotti's lawyer even won a court order for the couple to marry earlier in June, but the motion was blocked by the OC sheriff's department.

Finally, the jail authorities gave in and allowed them to wed in a strange ceremony that had the groom and the bride separated by a wall and taking their vows over the phone.
