An 8-week-old puppy that got caught in a cactus has been rescued by a passerby who heard him crying.

The dog’s rescuer reportedly removed close to a 2.2kg bucket of spines that were stuck in the puppy before he was taken to the AHS Second Chance Animal Hospital, in Phoenix, Arizona.

After checking for any damage to his eyes, vets prescribed medication to stop his wounds from getting infected.

Humane Society officials in the US said they will hold an adoption drawing for "Cactus Jack", abc15 reported.
