Elderly woman injured in Sydney bag snatch

FIRST ON 7: An 84-year-old woman has been left with facial injuries in the latest Sydney bag snatch targeting the elderly.

Residents heard the woman screaming while she was attacked at Croydon Park, just after midday.

"I was ready to be home, rotten person, he was a young b****rd. I could kill him," she told 7News.

Her son Mick Lalic said she has been knocked around, but she is still in good spirit.

Good spirit, but no wallet, keys, handbag, and no understanding of how someone could have such little respect for her, or themselves.

Mrs Lalic had just been dropped off by a bus and she was walking home along Violet Streetwhen two thugs saw an opportunity and took it.

"She tried to grab onto [her bag] and they spun her around and she fell, fell on her face and she tried to break her fall and I think that might have resulted in her breaking her arm as well," son Mick Lalic said.

A shocking break, it snapped from her shoulder, and will require surgery.

"Well the thing is now I haven't got the Medicare, I haven't got the pension," Maria said.

7News viewers are equally outraged, with our Facebook site flooded with descriptions like 'cowardly scum', a 'gutless bloody wonder', and the ironic suggestion ‘our diggers would be proud.’

It follows more than half a dozen attacks on Sydney's elderly in the past three weeks, a lack of respect, says Milan Lalic, and a lack of something else.

"Strict rules, and that means strict laws."

Police say the men are of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance.
