Road rage victim speaks out to find attacker

FIRST ON 7: The victim of a savage, apparently unprovoked road rage attack in Sydney’s south-west fears he’s suffered lasting injury.

The 19-year-old has bravely come forward to tell 7News of his ordeal, saying the thug who punched and kicked him must be caught.

The attack left Ray Langman with concussion and suffering internal injuries.

"My spleen is still bleeding, so I'm not really out of it yet," he said.

Ray and his girlfiend were driving south on Appin Road at about 8.15pm on Monday night.

"A couple in another car came up beside us, staring into our car, so I waved to break the ice," he said.

A wave that was obviously misread.

At the Therry Road lights, a man wrenched open his door.

"[He] got out of the car, and started punching me. And I got knocked out pretty much on the first or second punch."

Ray was kicked as well, and he woke up in hospital having brain scans, but he was certainly lucky to be alive.

"Just a wave to set someone off like that, I was a bit shocked," he said.

Police say there was no excuse.

"It was a brutal attack that we would submit is unprovoked," Detective Inspector Ward Hanson said.

Police are eager to hear from any witnesses.

Given the attack happened on one of Campelltown's busiest roads, they say somebody must have witnessed it.

The attacker is believed to be in his late teens or early 20s, of Pacific Islander appearance and solid build.

"We're further advised that he has a tribal tattoo on the right arm somewhere,' Detective Hanson said.

He was in a blue or grey Corolla with registration beginning AG.
