FIRST ON 7: A nine-year-old boy riding on a friend’s motorbike has been killed in a Christmas Day tragedy in country New South Wales.

Kayleb O’Neill was riding with a friend, a 12-year-old boy, who had received the motorbike as a Christmas present.

The boys were riding through the Wellington Town Common when the motorbike struck a wooden post, throwing them into the air.

Little Kayleb suffered massive head injuries and died at the scene.

His mother paid tribute to her son on Facebook.

“I’ll love you until the day I die … you made me so proud … you were the best big brother and son anyone could ask for,” she wrote on Facebook.

“I’ll love you more than life and I’ll never ever forget.”

Police investigations into the accident are underway.

They say what is clear is that the boys were not wearing helmets, which could have prevented their injuries.

The older boy has two broken legs and head injuries, and is in intensive care at the Westmead Children’s Hospital.
