Police are looking for the husband of a woman whose body was found in a backyard shed in the NSW Hunter Valley.

They are searching bushland in the Wyee area for 42-year-old Darren Fishburn and say they have concerns for his welfare.

He hasn't been seen since the body of his wife, a 43-year-old woman was found in a backyard shed yesterday.

The woman was found by a family member yesterday morning at the rear of a house on Wyndham Street, Greta.

The Newcastle Herald has now reported that the woman, Tammy Sindermann was found by her daughter.

It’s believed the woman and her partner had been living in the property for two years with her grandmother.

Police attended the scene and determined the woman had died under suspicious circumstances.

They are awaiting reports from forensic officers before confirming whether they are investigating a murder.

Mr Fishburn is described as being of Caucasian appearance with a solid build, short brown hair, goatee beard and piercings in both ears.

It is believed he may be using a red 1989 model Nissan Patrol with NSW registration YAE-923.

Strike Force Wintervale has been formed and investigating officers urge anyone who might be able to assist to call Hunter Valley Detectives or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
