7News: A police officer comforts Major Ev Hancock at the Elizabeth East Salvation Army shop early this morning.
Vandals have set alight storage sheds, holding items donated to the Salvation Army at Elizabeth East early this morning.
Police say the fires were reported just after 1 am, at the thrift shop on Kinkaid Rd, in Adelaide's northern suburbs.
The damage bill is estimated at $15,000.
Major Ev Hancock oversees the Salvation Army store at Elizabeth East, and says it's not the first time they have been subjected to vandal attacks.
She says emergency crews called her about the blaze last night and she arrived there around 2 am.
"It’s pretty demoralizing really," she said, "But, you know, we’re here to help the community."
"Our volunteers come in every day, and there’s always a mess and they clean it up."
But she says she has no doubt the rest of the community will continue to donate to the thrift shop.
"It’s busy prior to Christmas, and it’s always busy at this time of year."
"Of course now, we have nowhere to put it."
