Truck fire closes lanes on Sydney motorway

A truck carrying half a dozen cars has caught fire on Sydney's M5 motorway, temporarily closing all westbound lanes.

The truck fire started at around 2.30pm, according to police, who said westbound lanes had been closed.

Footage of the incident uploaded to social media shows the motorway covered in smoke as firefighters hose down the truck and its trailer, which is filled with several burning cars.

After the fire was brought under control the westbound lanes of the motorway reopened shortly after 4pm.

However, the north and southbound on ramps to travel west remain closed, the Transport Management Centre says.
