Six cyclists hurt in Sydney crash

Six cyclists have been injured, five seriously, after colliding with a car in Sydney's southeast.

The accident happened on Southern Cross Drive at Eastlakes about 8.30am on Sunday.

All six cyclists were taken to hospital.

No one in the car was hurt.

The driver of the Nissan vehicle has been taken to the Prince of Wales Hospital for a mandatory check-up.

The driver, aged in his 20s, is currently being questioned by Botany Bay Police.

Inspector Bill Darnell says the 28-year-old male driver of the car is in shock.

"Six pedal cyclists were travelling north on Southern Cross Drive in the breakdown lane and lane one and it appears that a northbound motorists has collided with those cyclists and knocked all six over," he said.

Police are appealing for all witnesses to come forward.
