Australia's oldest person

First on 7: Jane Gray is Australia’s oldest living person and, at the grand age old of 112 knows a thing or two about the secret to living a long happy life.

A special celebration was held in Smithfield in Sydney today to mark her birthday.

But Jane is hoping for a further cause to celebrate with a new world record in her sights.

Her secret? “Just drink....but I only drink water.”

Diets? Forget them. She has never been on one.

Jane’s daughter Heather says her mum’s wicked sense of humour kind spirit have kept her young.

Today, Jane's family and friends from her nursing home at Smithfield threw her a party.

After all, it's not every day you can claim to be the oldest person in Australia.

This super centenarian has lived through two World Wars, a bout of scarlet fever, the birth of the internet and the reign of every Australian Prime Minister.

But there is another title Jane wants and that is to be the oldest person in the world.

That title is currently held by a 115-year-old Japanese woman.

“You’re going to live past 115, is that right?” daughter Heather asks. "Yes, that's right," Jane answers.
