Channel Nine's Today host Karl Stefanovic has apologised for his performance on the show the morning after the Logies.

The host came under criticism after viewer feedback claimed he was still drunk from the night before.

Even newsreader Mark Ferguson seemed to pick up on the strange behaviour, and responded to viewer e-mails.

"Karl despite what some of the emails say, I think you are doing a terrific job," he said.

"That's nasty Fergo, that's really nasty," Stefanovic quipped.

"I'm just trying here man, just trying."

He apologised after the 8am news break on Today this morning.

However, he has not admitted to being intoxicated, even though admitting his performance was below par.

"When I woke up I did not feel drunk," the host said.

"If I did I would not have gone on air. I think I'm professional enough to make that decision."

His Today co-host Lisa Wilkinson supported him, saying he was a 'total professional the entire time.'

It is not known whether Stefanovic had been drinking the night before or not, but he had not fronted the Today Show until this morning.
