Dying cancer patient put in Melbourne hospital room with dead person
A Melbourne hospital has admitted it failed to properly care for a man dying from cancer who was placed in the same room as a dead patient.
In his final hours, the man was admitted into a room where one patient had recently died, the Herald Sun reports.
An internal review was launched at the Northern Hospital in Epping following a complaint from the man’s family.
The man’s wife, from Kinglake northeast of Melbourne, told the newspaper her partner was given inconsistent pain relief.
After he died, she said her husband’s body was left in a distressing state in a room full of rubbish.
"I don't want other families to have to go through what we went through," she said.
"There is clearly a major issue going on there, right down to staffing."

Following the review a spokesperson said the Northern Health had apologised to the family, admitting there was "no doubt we failed our patient and his family at their time of greatest need".
"The patient experience outlined is not the standard we expect at Northern Health and we have re-educated staff to ensure this doesn't happen again," they said.
