Queensland mum's dramatic dash to save son from carjackers

A Loganlea mother says she and her young son are traumatised after an attempted carjacking at a Meadowbrook shopping centre, in south-east Queensland.

Fearing for her child she sped away from the stolen vehicle, but it followed.

In footage obtained by 7 News, a red car can be seen closing in on them, while the mother and son were sitting inside.

The red, stolen vehicle then pulls up beside theirs.

In the video you don't see what happens next, but the mother, who doesn't want to be identified, says she can't forget.

The mother said, "A girl jumped out trying to get into the car."

She claims a man did as well and said they both tried to open the passenger door where her nine-year-old son was sitting, but the doors were locked.

"You don't know who it is, what they are capable of," she said.

The mother made a desperate dash, speeding away from the car, but the stolen car followed. It can be seen in the video reappearing in the lane beside them.

"The faster I went and they tried to keep up with me," she said.

Eventually, they gave up the chase and in the video the car can be seen veering left as the woman raced through a red light, while her son called Triple 0.

The car was stolen from the driveway of a Slacks Creek home early on Sunday morning.

The thieves crept inside the house and stole the keys while a husband and wife were sleeping.

The car's owner Phillip McCallum told 7 News, "My wife's devastated, so's me mum. Me? First time in my life I have felt violated."
