'He picked the wrong house': Trespasser breaks into surveillance expert's property
A man who allegedly broke into a construction site has been left red-faced after he discovered the property belonged to a security surveillance expert.
The Malvern man allegedly broke into a construction site on Eton Street at about 5.45am but what he didn’t know was cameras in real time were watching his actions.
Angelo Demasi is a surveillance expert, and as soon as his cameras picked up the alleged offender, he had police arrive in minutes.
“He picked the wrong house for sure,” Mr Demasi said.
“This is my house and I do this for a business and basically install building site surveillance cameras.”
Thefts from building sites are on the rise.
Mr Demasi said he’d witnessed a number of items being stolen from construction sites in the past.
“It’s almost like a shopping list that someone needs,” he said.
“Timbers, you know we've had roof trusses go, bricks, pavers, fake lawn, all sorts of things (including) rainwater tanks.”
The man said he didn’t mean to go onto the site, but he’s been charged with serious criminal trespass.
