Sydney commuter implants Opal card chip under his skin

A Sydney train passenger has taken a rather drastic step to ensure he is never inconvenienced by a lost Opal card again - by putting it underneath his skin.

Meow-Ludo Disco Gamma Meow-Meow had the chip from his Opal card implanted into his left hand – a move that gives him an advantage over other commuters.

"It gives me an ability that not everyone else has, so if someone stole my wallet I could still get home," he told ABC.

Just like a regular transport pass, Mr Meow-Meow, his legal name, uses his left hand to tap on and tap off and can upload funds to his card as normal.

He didn’t believe his move to have the Opal card cut down to size and encased in a bio-compatible plastic was drastic, rather just futuristic.

"Putting technology into the body is not unusual," he said.

"My goal is to have frictionless interaction with technology.”

Despite having three separate chips implanted in his body now, the bio-hacker warned others not to try his life-hack without proper research and the help of an expert.

"Be aware of the risks involved and make a wise judgement based on that."
