New video shows Andrew Bolt fighting off two 'glitter bombers'

New video has emerged showing more of the violent confrontation between a giltter-bomber and controversial News Corp columnist Andrew Bolt.

Two masked men attacked Bolt on Tuesday as he approached the Il Gambero restaurant in Melbourne in the early afternoon.

The new video shows a clearly surprised Bolt retaliating after he is hit with a mixture of glitter dye and shaving cream.

After several punches the pair appear cowed before nearby trader Paul Eliopoulos stepped in to aid the outnumbered Bolt.

"I know he's a controversial figure and, whether you agree or not, you should be able to stand up and say 'Hey I don't agree with you, mate'," the hi-fi retailer told AAP.

"That's taking it to a completely different level and it's disturbing."

The ‘glitter bomb’ has been linked with pro-LGBT activists targeting political opponents but this stunt appears to have backfired, with commenters from the left and right condemning the men.

"He's (Bolt) got in a few good punches and a kick (between the legs)," restaurant owner Xavier Dimattina told AAP on Wednesday.

"It all happened very quickly."

Bolt labelled the pair “leftist facists” in his New Corp blog after the clash. He later urged others to follow his lead in resisting physical attacks and said he would pursue his attackers, demanding they make a charitable donation as recompense.

He was preparing to launch his book on Donald Trump, The Art of the Impossible, when the attack occurred.
